I know… we can’t believe we’re still in business either.
The Asylum opened shop in 1997 in a one-bedroom apartment with the crazy idea that a few dedicated movie lovers could actually create a mini film studio. And now, ten years later, it’s exactly what we’ve become.
There have been a lot of changes over the years. For one thing, we’re no longer in a one-bedroom apartment (then rent was too high, so we moved into a single). Many people aren’t aware that The Asylum started as a distributor of “art house” films, then we made a name for ourselves as the makers of B-horror movies, and now we’re known for our studio tie-ins (some people call them rip-offs… but they just don’t know any better). But one thing hasn’t changed: This company is still made up of a small group of people who just love to make movies.
We don’t know what the next ten years will bring (porn, probably), but we hope you’ll be there with us.
