As 2011 comes to a close, we’d like to thank everyone for helping make this the best year in the history of The Asylum.

Before I head off to spend time with family on the east coast (“slow and steady drinking, slow and steady drinking”), I thought I’d share some various links and postings that we’ve been collecting over the last few weeks:

I’m sending this email in hopes that the folks at The Asylum will remember that they, too, are human beings. Please, for the love of all that is holy, can you cease making such incredibly shitty films? You guys are parasites, living off of the success of more talented and competent filmmakers. As soon as Hollywood releases a film and it makes big bucks, you guys immediately release another film with a similar title that’s a horrifically terrible knock-off. I mean, if you’re going to rip everyone off, at least make films that don’t suck this bad. Your graphics department looks like it’s composed entirely of three-year-old finger-painters. Seriously, I can’t suspend disbelief THAT MUCH to believe any of your on-screen “creatures” are real. It ruins the entire viewing experience if the entire time I’m thinking to myself “it looks like a blind autistic child made these graphics.” I mean, how much money could you possibly be making with these films? I don’t know a single person that runs to the video store to buy an Asylum release. In fact, most people I know only rent your films by mistake thinking they are the big-budget films you rip off. Is that your marketing strategy or something? Seriously, guys, give it up. You obviously were never meant to be in the film business. Your pictures suck, plain and simple.

From the Set: Air Collision

Reginald VelJohnson stars as an air traffic controller trying desperately to stop a collision between Air Force One and commercial airliner. Jordan Ladd and Gerald Webb are members of the jetliner crew and Andy Clemence (3 Musketeers) reprises his role as the unluckiest President of the United States in history.

AIR COLLISION will be released on DVD/VOD on March 27, 2012.

Now Accepting Pitches

As I’ve mentioned before, we get dozens of emails every day from writers asking how they can submit screenplays and ideas to The Asylum. Most of these emails go right into the trash because we almost never make movies based on outside material. The movies we make are very specific and the ideas usually come from our buyers. And, until now, we’ve been able to fulfill the demand internally.

Well, that has changed.

We are in need of some very specific pitches and have decided to open the process up to anyone interested in participating.

If you would your ideas considered for possible production, please read the submission requirements and guidelines here.

Mega Shark Makes You Feel Good

The fine folks at Rochester Institute of Technology are holding a Wellness Event for their students next week and decided that nothing says healthy like MEGA SHARK VS GIANT OCTOPUS.

The school will be screening the “Dive-in Movie” and created this awesome poster for the event.

If you’re a RIT student, we hope you’ll come out, get healthy, and watch a movie about giant fish.

Jane March stars as the vain and villainous Queen, Jamie Thomas King is the charming Prince, and Eliza Bennett is Snow White.

The Asylum’s take on the classic fairy tale, filmed on location in and around Vienna, Austria, will be available on DVD and VOD on March 13, 2012.

The pleasure-bots in our marketing dungeon are always jabbering on and making a ruckus. It’s usually something about the best jello-shots bar or imaginary bouts between MegaShark and Hulk Hogan. But sometimes they come up with a good idea. The trick is to know which one. That’s why we need your help.

We are thinking of setting up a members-only Asylum fans site, with exclusive schwag, content, and DVDs.

We have a few questions that we need answered and we are willing to pay for it.
